Our plan for the day was to walk to the 3rd arrondissement and spend time in the Marais area and then head over to the Islands and see Notre Dame and Saint-Chapel. We did it all..and walked every bit of it.
Since we were walking by the Louvre, we walked through the Touilleries
Finally a picture from the Louvre with no tourists!
More planters for Mom
This picture gave us a good laugh....the story will not translate but we think it is Julius Caesar!
We made it to the Marais area. Very neat and electic.
Lots of pretty sights to see, like a "hidden" garden
We even did a little shopping!
Les mademoiselles!
We crossed Le Seine and saw Notre Dame
We luckily made it just in time to see the inside of Saint-Chapel before it closed for the day. We had to walk up a very narrow, very claustrophobic staircase for me to get this picture.
I'd say it was worth it.
We loved the Marais area that we decided to go back for dinner!
Kate had been recommended a place called Derriere.
It was great.
Food was amazing and we definitely loved the interior and design of the restaurant.
It was in an old house..we were seated in a bedroom upstairs...
1 out of the 3 seats was on the end of the bed..
Ceiling above the bed
View from the bed
We started with buffalo mozzarella, olive tapenade and sun dried tomatoes
And also ordered black carrots tossed with cilantro and a very tasty vinaigrette
Laurie had been told about this place called "Andy Wahloo"
We had no idea what it was but figured it had been misspelled and was supposed to read
"Andy Warhol"
It was indeed Andy Wahloo AND was next the restaurant. An odd coincidence.
There was a tiny dance floor, with a live singer, saxophonist and a man playing african drums.
The music was great and the flaneuring was even better.
After about 30 minutes (enough for 1 drink) we were kind of thinking it might be a gay bar..
So we left. BUT not without our souvenirs.
My copper mug from the moscow mule and Kate took the drink menu
THEN we went to Les Georges at the top of the Pompidou, which is also in the 3rd arrt.
You could see everything from here-Notre Dame, Saint Chapel
And the Eiffel tower
We had so much fun here.
The music was unbearably loud in the beginning and people were dancing next to their tables. It didn't take long before we were doing the same.
At the end o f the night they gave away the long stemmed roses in the middle of the table.
I think Laurie bit down on a thorn.
